In 2023, BCI committed to the ecological transition by collaborating with the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) to reduce its COâ‚‚ emissions. This initiative is part of a broader ambition to adopt more responsible and sustainable practices, particularly in mobility.
The transport sector accounts for a significant share of global greenhouse gas emissions, and New Caledonia is no exception. As a key economic player in the region, BCI aims to be a driving force for change by encouraging its employees to adopt more environmentally friendly behaviors. This commitment reflects a clear ambition: to actively contribute to a more sustainable future while enhancing collective well-being.

To promote eco-mobility, BCI has implemented concrete actions to encourage alternative and environmentally friendly modes of transport. Among these solutions, carpooling stands out as a practical, economical, and sociable alternative.
To go further, BCI launched an internal challenge using the Wigo app. This innovative, locally developed solution facilitates shared commutes by connecting colleagues or other users offering rides while splitting travel costs. Wigo provides various features, including ride searching and posting, seat reservations, cost-sharing, driver and passenger ratings, and carbon footprint reduction.

The Wigo carpooling challenge marked an encouraging first step, with 23 employees participating. Together, they saved 1,100 kilometers of travel, demonstrating the potential of such an initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In this same effort, BCI has also acquired two electric vehicles. This decision aligns with our CSR approach and reflects our commitment to integrating cleaner, more sustainable solutions into our daily operations. These vehicles are available for professional trips, offering an eco-friendly alternative for our employees.
By adopting these measures, BCI pursues several key objectives: reducing its environmental footprint, raising awareness among its teams about ecological challenges, and demonstrating that the ecological transition can seamlessly integrate into a company’s daily operations. By promoting carpooling and other eco-friendly practices, BCI reaffirms its commitment to actively contributing to a more sustainable future for New Caledonia.
