The New Caledonian lagoons are home to an exceptional marine biodiversity, often unknown. Since 2008, they have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name “Lagoons of New Caledonia: reef diversity and associated ecosystems”.
This is the first time French overseas sites have been listed as World Heritage sites.
In order to participate in the protection of this fragile ecosystem in a sustainable way, the BCI has decided to focus on education by producing a web series highlighting the emblematic species of the lagoon. This is an opportunity to (re)discover them and to better understand their specificities thanks to the testimonies of experts and scientists (IRD – Institute of Research for Development, Maritime Museum of New Caledonia, the Aquarium of the Noumea Lagoon).
The Pacific Ocean, to which BRED is strongly linked, has an incomparable marine wealth, which it is essential to protect. The aim of this scientific popularization is to make the general public aware of the richness of the lagoons and their fragile balance, thus working to protect the marine environment and its biodiversity.
The webseries Immersion, composed of 10 video capsules in square format, will be available very soon on the Facebook page BCI Media.
The teaser was released on June 8, 2021 on the occasion of World Oceans Day.
