BRED Bank Solomon staff presented a cheque of $1,000 to the Cancer Unit on Thursday 28 October 2021.
The money was raised during a #pinktober fundraiser event on Friday 22 October 2021. The fundraiser included selling of pink ribbons plus donations from staff, and the bank.
During the handover last Friday, Kukum Branch Manager Ms Rose Abana stated that this will be an annual event for BRED Bank Solomon Staff.
As a foreign bank, we understand that our duty towards the people of Solomon Islands goes beyond convenient banking services, easily accessible loans and fair interest rates for everyone.
On receiving the cheque, Dr Soma of the Cancer Unit thanked BRED Solomon Staff for the kind donation. Soma said cancer is not the most comfortable illness; hence, apart from equipment, the Cancer Unit needs a lot of items to help cancer patients feel comfortable while undergoing their chemotherapy treatments. Most of the things in the Cancer Unit have been donated by groups, business houses and individuals. At the moment, the Cancer Unit also lacks a Mammogram which is used to detect cancer in the breast.
The Cancer Unit will create a “wish list “of items they need so that the public can donate.
Breast Cancer is the second cancer killer here in the Solomon Islands. It is curable if detected early. If you notice any unusual changes on the breast, seek medical attention immediately!
